Vaulted timber ceiling and twin beds inside a Maldives overwater villa

You & Me Maldives Review

A romantic, adults-only Raa Atoll island where all-a-la-carte dining and a Michelin-backed underwater restaurant outweigh a modest house reef.

Overview

You & Me Maldives, opened in 2019 as part of the Cocoon Collection, is an adults-only island in the northern reaches of Raa Atoll, about 45 minutes by seaplane from Male. Its 109 villas, 99 of them overwater and the rest on the beach, are dressed in a rustic, wood-and-thatch style with African-inspired touches, a deliberate contrast to the glassy minimalism of many newer resorts. Nearly every category above entry level has a private pool, which is rarer than it sounds at this end of the market.

Two things set it apart. The first is H2O, a fully submerged restaurant six metres under the lagoon overseen by Michelin-starred chef Andrea Berton, and one of the most sought-after tables in the Maldives; book it, ideally a dinner seating, at the same time as your room. The second is the Dine Around concept: there is no buffet anywhere on the island, and guests on half board and above eat a la carte across restaurants including the main venue The Sand, the Japanese Rising Sun and beachside La Pasta. The overwater spa by Elizabeth Arden, with glass floor panels over the lagoon, rounds out the romance.

It is not flawless. The house reef is a weak point, with a wide, shallow lagoon meaning the best marine life sits a long swim out, so keen snorkellers should temper expectations or plan guided trips to Raa’s stronger sites. And for an adults-only resort it is unusually sociable, with live music, DJ nights and beach cinema, which couples chasing total silence should weigh. But for honeymooners who want genuine dining variety, plunge pools across most villas and more evening life than the average quiet-luxury island, it is strong value.

Why We Love It

Romantic but sociable, which is unusual for an adults-only Maldivian island. Where many quiet-luxury resorts build every evening around a candlelit dinner, You & Me adds live bands, DJ sets, themed parties and beach cinema alongside the seclusion. The design is warm and rustic, heavy on polished wood and thatch rather than cool minimalism. It suits couples who want the option of a livelier night without leaving the island, and who can opt out into total privacy on quieter evenings.

Rooms & Suites

There are seven villa categories across 109 villas, 99 of them overwater on stilts and ten on the beach. Entry-level Lagoon Villas have direct lagoon access but no pool; most categories above them add a private plunge or infinity pool, and the Lagoon Suite with Pool is widely rated the value sweet spot. Interiors run to polished wooden floors, king beds facing the water and rain showers, with the larger Aqua and Beach suites adding soaking tubs. Sunrise or sunset facing is a genuine choice worth making.

Dining

This is the resort's strongest card. The Dine Around concept means no buffet anywhere and free choice across a la carte restaurants each night, from the international Sand to the Japanese Rising Sun and beachside Italian La Pasta. Above all there is H2O, the six-metre-deep underwater restaurant overseen by a Michelin-starred chef, one of the Maldives' most memorable meals. It sits outside the meal plans and books up fast, so reserve a dinner seating with your room.

Spa & Wellness

The You & Me Spa is built entirely over the water, with four double treatment suites and glass floor panels that let you watch the lagoon during a treatment, using Elizabeth Arden products. The overwater setting gives it more sense of occasion than the land-based spas at many rival resorts, and couples' treatments are a popular honeymoon add-on. As with H2O, it is worth booking ahead for the times you want.

Location

Reserve a dinner seating at H2O well ahead, and take the sunset dolphin cruise; day trips to Hanifaru Bay in neighbouring Baa Atoll offer manta and whale-shark encounters from roughly May to November.

The Verdict

Honeymooners, anniversary couples and adults-only travellers who want genuine dining variety, a private pool across most villas and more evening atmosphere than the typical quiet island. It also suits divers happy to travel a short boat ride to Raa's better sites. It is less suited to families, given the strict adults-only policy, and to anyone whose holiday depends on exceptional snorkelling straight off the villa deck.
