The result is a property with genuine character and a sense of place that would be almost impossible to recreate from scratch.
The hotel has 111 rooms and suites, including a particularly strong selection of sea-view accommodation. Some of the top suites feature expansive terraces and private plunge pools, while views stretch across the Bay of Taormina, the Ionian Sea and, from selected rooms, Mount Etna.
Dining is equally ambitious. Principe Cerami offers Michelin-starred Sicilian cooking, while Anciovi provides a more relaxed poolside experience centred on seafood and Mediterranean flavours. Even breakfast feels like an occasion thanks to panoramic views of Mount Etna, Taormina Bay and the Ancient Theatre.
Botanica Spa adds a more restorative side to the hotel, with an indoor pool, treatment rooms, steam facilities and sauna, while the clifftop infinity pool remains one of the property’s most memorable spaces.
San Domenico Palace is expensive even by Sicilian luxury standards, but very few hotels combine this much history, scenery, food and service in one place. For a special occasion or a first luxury stay in Taormina, it is difficult to think of a more complete choice.
