Fairmont Windsor Park opened in 2022 on 40 acres of landscaped grounds at Englefield Green, hard against the eastern edge of Windsor Great Park, and it makes no pretence of being an old pile. This is a new-build country house at scale: 200 rooms and suites, a private lake, topiary and a kitchen garden, with interiors that read as manor house via showroom, polished, light and comfortable rather than creaking with history. Windsor Castle is a ten-minute drive, Heathrow twenty, which explains both the international crowd and the room rates.
The spa is the reason to come, and it is one of the largest in the country: hydrotherapy pools indoors and out, a hammam, a salt room, saunas, thermal suites and a serious gym, arranged so you can lose a full day without repeating yourself. Book treatments well ahead at weekends. Dining runs from a properly done afternoon tea to 1215, the fine-dining room named for the year the Magna Carta was sealed at Runnymede, just down the hill.
Candidly, the hotel is still growing into itself; weekends bring wedding parties and spa day-trippers, and anyone who needs patina should book a creaking Georgian rectory instead. But for a restorative two nights of long park walks, hydrotherapy circuits and a decent martini, all within half an hour of Heathrow, it is very hard to argue with.
