Radio City Music Hall sits at 1260 Sixth Avenue, on the corner of West 50th Street inside Rockefeller Center, so the best hotels near Radio City Music Hall are a four to thirteen minute walk away and you never need a car. The closest five-star room on this list is the Baccarat Hotel New York, three blocks north on West 53rd Street. The furthest property here worth the extra blocks is The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park. Everything below is organised by walk time from the doors, with one caveat: a full house emptying at 10.30pm makes the last two avenues feel longer than they are.

Hotels under a five-minute walk from Radio City Music Hall

Baccarat Hotel New York

Cross Sixth Avenue, walk three blocks north, and the entrance is mid-block on West 53rd Street opposite MoMA. That is a walk of about four minutes, door to door. The hotel keeps a spa and an indoor pool below ground, which is the part guests actually use on a cold January afternoon before an 8pm show. Rates sit at the top of the Midtown market. The Grand Salon is busy with non-residents most evenings, so reserve a table or afternoon tea well ahead.

The Michelangelo New York

The other genuinely short walk, on the corner of West 51st Street and Seventh Avenue. It reads as Italian-run rather than a large American chain box, the rooms are a generous size, and it sits between Radio City and the Broadway theatres, which matters if you are pairing a concert with a matinee. Price level is a clear step below the Fifth Avenue five-stars without compromising on space. The trade-off is the Seventh Avenue position, louder and closer to the Times Square crowd than anything else on this list.

Hotels a five to ten minute walk away

The Luxury Collection Hotel, Manhattan Midtown

Four blocks north on West 54th Street, this tower traded first as The London NYC, then as the Conrad New York Midtown, and now sits in Marriott’s Luxury Collection. Every room here is a suite, which is unusual at this price and genuinely useful for a family going to the Christmas Spectacular: separate living space means the children can be put to bed while the adults are still awake. Dabble, off the lobby, handles breakfast and pre-theatre dinner. It is a tall building, so ask where you are being placed; the views change enormously.

Lotte New York Palace

Two avenue blocks east, at Madison and 50th, and the only hotel on this list where you arrive through an 1880s courtyard. The Villard Houses form the front of the property and a tower behind holds most of the rooms. There is a large fitness centre and spa. This is the practical pick for a group: the scale means availability when the Fifth Avenue hotels are full, and the walk to 1260 Sixth Avenue is flat, well lit and straight past St Patrick’s Cathedral.

The Peninsula New York

A Beaux Arts building at Fifth Avenue and 55th Street, five blocks north and one avenue east of the hall. There is a spa with an indoor pool, and a rooftop terrace for a drink at the end of an evening. Service is the reason to choose it over the newer arrivals; the doorstep, on the Fifth Avenue shopping stretch, is the second. Expect top-of-market rates, especially through December.

The Whitby Hotel

Firmdale’s New York property, on West 56th Street just off Fifth Avenue, decorated in a pattern-heavy style. It is the clearest alternative on this list to grey Midtown minimalism. The reason to book it for a Radio City night is the screening room and a bar and restaurant that stays useful late. The reason to think twice is arithmetic: it is a small house, so the Christmas dates go early. Two blocks from Central Park, eight minutes from the hall.

The St. Regis New York

Ten minutes away at Fifth Avenue and 55th Street, and the King Cole Bar downstairs is the most likely reason you would pick it for a concert night. The Maxfield Parrish mural and the Red Snapper, which the hotel claims as the American debut of the Bloody Mary, are worth arriving early for, so check the bar’s opening hours when you book and leave yourself time before an 8pm curtain. Rooms are grand rather than informal, butler service comes with the room as it does across the brand, and the price level is high.

Hotels ten to fifteen minutes away, worth the extra blocks

Aman New York

Eleven minutes up Sixth Avenue and one block east, in the Crown Building at Fifth and 57th. The suites are all large by Manhattan standards, the spa runs over three floors with a full-length indoor pool, there are two restaurants in Arva and Nama, and a jazz club in the cellar. It is the most expensive room on this list by a wide margin and the least conventional: quiet, low-lit, and organised around the spa rather than the lobby. Choose it when the hotel is the point of the trip and Radio City is one evening inside it.

Waldorf Astoria New York

Reopened in July 2025 after an eight-year restoration, at 301 Park Avenue between 49th and 50th. It is three avenue blocks east of Radio City, roughly twelve minutes on foot, and the walk is the easiest kind, straight along 50th Street with no avenue crossings to argue about. There is a spa and fitness floor, and three dining rooms: Lex Yard, a brasserie from Michael Anthony, the Japanese room Yoshoku, and Peacock Alley. If you know the brand from London, our review of the Waldorf Astoria London Admiralty Arch covers how the group is handling its restoration projects.

The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park

At 50 Central Park South this is the longest walk on the list, around thirteen minutes, and the only one on this list where the window looks at the park rather than another building. It has a La Prairie spa and an all-day lounge called Contour. Head north on Sixth Avenue and you reach the bottom of the park. The return walk after a late show is straightforward, though it feels longer in December weather. If you are weighing it against the other large American luxury brand, our Four Seasons versus Ritz-Carlton comparison is the place to start.

Peacock Alley, and where to drink before the show

Peacock Alley reopened with the Waldorf Astoria and runs through the day, with a cocktail list built by Jeff Bell and live music in the evening. At twelve minutes from the hall it works better as an after-show room than a pre-show one: leave at 10.30pm, walk east along 50th Street, and you are through the door before the Rockefeller Center crowd has finished queueing for taxis. Non-residents are welcome, but book, particularly in December.

For a drink before the curtain, the King Cole Bar at The St. Regis and the Baccarat’s Grand Salon are the two obvious choices, and of the two the Grand Salon is the shorter walk back to your seat. Radio City sells drinks inside, but the queues at a sold-out house are long enough that most people do their drinking either side of the performance rather than during the interval.

Booking around the Christmas Spectacular season

The Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes opens on 4 November 2026 and runs into the new year, with 230 performances. That volume of shows drives what you will pay for a hotel near Radio City Music Hall. Midtown rates climb from the last week of November and peak between 20 December and 2 January, and the smallest hotels closest to the hall go first. If your dates move, early November and the first ten days of December are noticeably cheaper for the same walk and the same show. Our guide to luxury Christmas hotel breaks covers the same pattern in other cities.

Most of the five-stars here sit in at least one travel agent programme, and those benefits are usually worth more than the small discount a booking site shaves off the rate. A confirmed upgrade or breakfast for two at the Palace or the Peninsula in late December is real money. Our comparison of Virtuoso, Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts and Four Seasons Preferred Partner sets out which programme covers which brand.

Getting to 1260 Sixth Avenue

The nearest subway is 47-50 Streets Rockefeller Center, which surfaces inside the Rockefeller Center concourse about two minutes from the doors. From every hotel on this list, though, walking is quicker than taking the train. Cars are the worst option: the blocks around Rockefeller Center are congested and periodically closed to traffic through the Christmas season, and a taxi from 57th Street can take longer than the eleven-minute walk. If mobility is a consideration, the flattest approaches are along 50th Street from the east, coming from the Waldorf Astoria or the Palace, and straight down Sixth Avenue from the north.

Walk times here are measured from 1260 Sixth Avenue on foot, and every property named was checked as open and trading before publication. Where a detail is seasonal or still settling after a renovation, we have said so.

Frequently asked questions

Which hotel is closest to Radio City Music Hall?

Baccarat Hotel New York, on West 53rd Street between Fifth and Sixth, is about a four-minute walk and the closest five-star property on this list. The Michelangelo New York, at 51st and Seventh, is the same walk at a lower price level. Both are close enough that you can go back to the room between dinner and the show.

Can you walk from a Times Square hotel to Radio City Music Hall?

Yes. Most Times Square hotels are an eight to twelve minute walk, north and east up Seventh Avenue or Broadway. The route is busy rather than difficult, and you will push through more crowds than you would coming down Sixth Avenue from the north.

Is Peacock Alley at the Waldorf Astoria open to non-guests?

Yes. Peacock Alley reopened with the hotel and serves through the day, with a cocktail programme from Jeff Bell and live music in the evening. It takes non-residents, though you should book ahead in December. It is roughly a twelve-minute walk from Radio City, straight along 50th Street.

How far in advance should you book for the Christmas Spectacular?

For dates between 20 December and 2 January, book by late summer, because the smallest hotels near the hall sell those nights first. For early November or the first week of December you can often still find a five-star room six to eight weeks out, and usually at a materially lower rate than the fortnight around Christmas.

Which hotels close to Radio City Music Hall have a pool?

Of the properties here, Baccarat Hotel New York, The Peninsula New York and Aman New York all have indoor pools, and Aman’s is a full-length pool inside a spa spread over three floors. Plenty of Midtown hotels at this level have a gym and no pool, so confirm it before booking if swimming matters to the trip.
