Udaipur has never lacked palaces, but it has not gained a new one at this scale in generations. Fairmont Udaipur Palace, opened in 2024, rises out of the Aravalli Hills above Udaisagar Lake, twenty minutes from both the airport and the old city, and it is built as a full-throated Mewar fantasy: domes, jharokha balconies, carved sandstone and courtyards that seem designed for elephant-scale entrances. Subtle it is not. Convincing, unexpectedly, it is.
The 245 rooms and suites carry the theme indoors with carved detailing, deep balconies and marble bathrooms, facing the lake, gardens or hills; lake-view rooms catch a sunrise that justifies the alarm. Fairmont Gold layers on butler service and a private lounge. The infinity pool hangs above the water with the Aravallis stacked behind, and the spa works both Indian and international treatment traditions with the space to do them properly.
Zoya covers all-day dining with lakeside tables, Azzuro does Mediterranean by the pool, and the Amrit Mahal and Aravali bars split duties between polished interiors and sunset terraces. The obvious market is weddings, and the lawns and ballrooms are already booked at Bollywood scale, so check event calendars if you want quiet. The other honest note is geography: Lake Pichola, the City Palace and the ghats are a thirty-minute drive, so this is a destination stay, not a sightseeing base. For honeymoons and celebrations that want Rajasthan at maximum volume, it has instantly become the one to beat.
