Rosewood Munich opened in 2023 across two restored historic buildings in the old town: the former Bavarian State Bank and the aristocratic Palais Neuhaus-Preysing, joined behind their protected facades into a single hotel on Kardinal-Faulhaber-Strasse. It sits a block from the Frauenkirche and a short walk from Marienplatz, which puts the boutiques of Maximilianstrasse and the Funf Hofe arcades within a couple of minutes on foot. This is the brand’s first German property, and the setting does much of the talking: vaulted ceilings, stone staircases and a quiet interior courtyard that the city noise never quite reaches.
There are around 132 rooms and suites, contemporary and calm rather than costume-drama, with the historic proportions and detailing left to carry the drama. Dining runs through the Brasserie Cuvillies, an all-day room named for the rococo court architect, and the clubbier Bar Montez for cocktails. The wellness floor is an Asaya spa, Rosewood’s wellness concept, with a pool, thermal facilities and treatment rooms tucked into the old bank’s lower levels.
What you are paying for is location and fabric: a genuinely central old-town address inside two buildings most hotels could only dream of, run with Rosewood’s discreet, house-guest style of service. For a culture-first stay in Munich, with the opera, the Pinakotheken and the Viktualienmarkt all walkable, it is the most characterful luxury option in the city.
