Let us be honest about what this is: a large highway conference hotel at Tower Center, immediately off Exit 9 of the New Jersey Turnpike, with around 405 rooms and an executive meeting centre doing much of the daily business. Nobody books it for romance. But as a base for central New Jersey it is quietly excellent, ten minutes from Rutgers University and downtown New Brunswick’s theatres and restaurants, and within striking distance of both Manhattan and Princeton.
The rooms are classic full-service Hilton, larger than the area’s newer select-service boxes, with upper floors looking a long way across the Raritan Valley. An indoor pool earns its keep with families in winter, the gym is decent, and the lobby restaurant and bar cover the nights you cannot face driving again. Service has the practised ease of a team that turns over hundreds of conference guests a week without fuss.
Rates are the quiet argument. On non-event weekends this is one of the better-value full-service stays within reach of New York, and on Rutgers football or graduation weekends it becomes the area’s obvious headquarters, so book those months out. Mid-market it may be, but it is the good kind: honest, roomy and exactly where you need it to be.
