La Boquilla is a fishing village turned low-rise resort strip north of Cartagena’s airport, and the Ocean Pavillion plants you directly on its beach: Rafael Núñez International is ten minutes away, the walled Old Town twenty by taxi. That distance is the deal. You trade the colonial core’s heat, noise and hotel prices for sea breeze and space, and commute in for the evenings.
The 233 rooms are contemporary and cool-toned with balconies, and the ones worth specifying face the ocean, where higher floors catch the breeze and the sunset. The pool is the daytime engine, a big palm-ringed spread with cabanas and a separate children’s pool, and the beach is a few steps beyond. A modest spa, a gym and serious conference space fill out the brief, which is why midweek can skew corporate.
Eat breakfast well, arepas, tropical fruit and proper Colombian coffee, graze the pool bar by day, and save the serious dinners for the Old Town. The beach here is broad, local and lively with kitesurfers rather than brochure-perfect, and the mangrove lagoons behind the village host canoe tours that are the area’s quiet highlight. Service is warm in the Cartagena manner, quick with names and unhurried with everything else, and nothing about the place tries too hard.
