What’s included

  • 80,000 Membership Rewards points after 6,000 pounds spend in three months
  • Unlimited airport lounge access for you and a supplementary cardholder
  • Fine Hotels + Resorts: breakfast, late checkout and a property credit
  • 300 pounds of annual dining credits, UK and international
  • Comprehensive worldwide travel insurance for the household

American Express has lifted the UK Platinum sign-up bonus to 80,000 Membership Rewards points for new cardmembers who spend 6,000 pounds in their first three months. It is the strongest public offer on this card in several years, and for hotel-minded travellers the maths deserves a proper look.

Eighty thousand points transfer at 1:1 to Avios and most major hotel programmes, enough for a return business class seat to the east coast of America or several nights at mid-tier luxury properties. The card’s ongoing value, though, lives in the hotel benefits: Fine Hotels + Resorts bookings add breakfast, late checkout and a property credit at hundreds of five-star hotels, often outperforming the best flexible rate.

Be honest about the costs. The 650 pound annual fee is not offset by prestige; it is offset by using the dining credits, the lounge access and the FHR perks several times a year. If you take fewer than three or four trips annually, the sums rarely work. If you take more, few cards return as much. Terms apply and the bonus threshold is unforgiving, so plan the spend before you apply.
